DANCE SELECTION PROCESS

Primary Dance Selection Process

Primary Dances are the new dances selected each year for the Jam.
Listed below is the dance selection process.

December-February: The dance survey sites will be monitored. At least Ten (10), popular dances will be selected from this time period. Dances will be submitted to the Texas teachers on March 1st. Teachers will have until March 14th to vote for their six (6) favorites. The six (6) dances with the most votes will make it to the Jamboree as “primary dances.” (Note: during this period popular dances from September to November may be considered)

March-May: At least Ten (10) popular dances during these three (3) months will be selected by the same method as above and submitted to the Texas teachers on June 1st. The teachers will have until June 14th to vote for their six (6) favorites. The six (6) dances with the most votes will make it to the Jamboree as “primary dances.”

June-August: At least Ten (10) popular dances during these three (3) months will be selected by the same method as above and submitted to the Texas teachers on September 1st.  The teachers will have until September 14th to vote for their six (6) favorites. The six (6) dances with the most votes will make it to the Jamboree as “primary dances.”

September-November: Because this time period is close to or during the Jamboree, we will consider choosing dances during this period to be part of the December – February nominated dances. See NOTE above.

Favorite Dance Selection Process

The Favorite Dances are chosen from the previous year’s Jam Dances.
Voting is open to everyone.

Voting takes place following the Jam,
usually within a few weeks.

Floor Split Tags & Restarts

In 2006, in an effort to ensure that the dances were suitable for all dance levels,
the use of floor splits was started.

Because of the very positive response, floor splits have continued to be used.
